Professor Merlin Thomas

Professor Merlin Thomas is an internationally recognised clinician-scientist working in the field of diabetic complications. As a physician-scientist and researcher in the Department of Diabetes at Monash University, Melbourne, he brings a unique blend of expertise in nephrology, endocrinology, and molecular science to his work.

Recognised as the third-highest ranked expert in diabetic kidney disease globally, Professor Thomas is a leading authority in the field of diabetic complications.

With a keen focus on translating research into improved patient care, Professor Thomas’ work spans basic biochemistry and biology to epidemiology and clinical trials. His exceptional productivity is evident in his more than 270 publications, many of which appear in the highest-ranked journals in his field.
